PUPILS have been building on their success as they explore the many benefits of Lego.
Upper Key Stage2 children from Kirklevington Primary School and Trust pupils from Bewley Primary School have taken part in the regional final of First Lego League Unearthed, a global STEM competition, staged at Redcar and Cleveland College.
This year the competition was based on archaeology challenging children to explore the past in order to shape the future.
Pupils spent months constructing complex models, programming a robot through code to interact with various builds, creating a presentation about archaeology and making a frog explorer to solve problems that archaeologists would face deep in a recently discovered cave.
Kirklevington came a creditable eighth place with Bewley Primary School hot on their heels in ninth.
Kirklevington Primary School headteacher Louise Peacock said: “Our team has been working hard to come up with a number of solutions to many different problems, whilst showing excellent resilience and creativity. What a great job they have done.”
Bewley Primary School assistant headteacher James Cumiskey said: “The Digital Leaders enjoyed an exciting day out. The team also got to showcase their engineering project, Diggertron, a creative solution designed to help archaeologists explore underground sites safely without damaging important artefacts.
“They demonstrated excellent teamwork, resilience and creativity, proudly sharing their ideas and learning with judges and other teams throughout the day.”
