SCIENCE was brought to life and given new meaning as pupils studied liquids and gases with the help of an expert.

Reception classes at Whitehouse Primary School celebrated British Science Week in style thanks to a parent who works in the field.

Chris Beevers is a technical manager at Hartlepool-based ExWold Technology and he took time out to visit the children to introduce them to the world of science.

The afternoon focussed on exploring the power of bubbles and gases through a series of engaging experiments. These included some homemade lava lamps, the well-known elephant toothpaste reaction and an impressive Coke and Mentos eruption.

The children were encouraged to predict what might happen and talked about how gases can move liquids, create foam and build pressure.

Head teacher Jane Eyre said: “The afternoon was thoroughly enjoyed by all and we are extremely grateful to Chris and ExWold for donating their time, expertise and materials to make it happen.

“These experiments helped to bring scientific concepts to life in a fun way for our Reception children and spark their curiosity for future learning in science.”
