AN arts student is using her creative head to good effect as she makes a bold statement about the dangers of artificial intelligence.
Darlington College student Brooke Smith presented a powerful display at a recent arts showcase, at Blackwell Grange Hotel, with representations of her own head in sculpture form.
The 16-year-old, of Darlington, has just completed her first year on the level 3 diploma in creative practise art, design and communication course and the display was the culmination of her work.
“I wanted to make a point about AI,” she said. “Man is again being replaced by machine and AI is starting to take human jobs. The theme was ‘Identity’ so I created a sculpture of my own head and another that was part human, part machine.
“I love art and want to study it at university. I loved school as well and want to become an art teacher as I’d enjoy inspiring young minds.”
Darlington College lecturer in art and design Amy Minto said: “The issue of AI is an interesting one as technology develops apace. Brooke’s work, which addresses the relationship between creativity and technology, is insightful and I loved he result.”
