AN ARTS student who fled the war in Ukraine is celebrating after her work caught the official eye of the town’s mayor.
Darlington College student Alina Radkovska left her town of Ternopli four years ago as a result of the conflict with Russia and set up a new home with family in Leeming Bar, near Bedale.
She went to school in Northallerton where teachers urged her to sign up at Darlington College because of her artistic talents. Over the years she has completed a number of levels in art and design.
Every year Darlington College is given a brief to design the marketing materials for the annual Mayor’s Charity Ball.
This year’s mayor Coun Helen Crumbie came up with the theme Back to the 60s and Alina took first prize so will see her designs in print.
“I have really enjoyed my time at Darlington College,” she said. “I was surprised to win as there were many really good designs, so I was very happy when the mayor chose me.”
Darlington College art and design lecturer Amy Minto said: “Alina has worked hard during her time at the college and deserves to enjoy this success.”
