PUPILS enjoyed fun in the sun as they learned about the law and outdoor safety as part of an enrichment day.
Keeble Gateway Academy, Sowerby, Thirsk, part of the Elevate Multi Academy Trust, hosted a variety of visitors for an annual Happy Fest.
Children aged from nursery to Years 6 spent the day off timetable experiencing a range of activities with the police, who discussed law and British values, and fire and rescue services, who talked to them about river safety. Pupils were able to dress up in police and firefighters uniforms as well as play in a fire engine and police van.
Children also learnt juggling tricks with Stuart Priest, of Circus Skills York, enjoyed storytelling with Star Bright’s Elana Joy, and joined a rock band with Rock the School’s Mark Stevenson.
After all the excitement pupils addressed their mental health and wellbeing with some colouring mindfulness before lunch.
In the afternoon the children were joined by friends and family for a giant community picnic on the school fields. Everyone was encouraged to hook a duck to raise funds for school trips and extra resources.
Headteacher Jonny Davies said: “This has been a lovely opportunity to bring the whole community together.
“As a new school it is important to try and grow a sense of community. We love days like this and will be making more of them in the future.”
