BUDDING actors enjoyed fun and games as they took to the stage for their annual production.
Year 3, 4, 5, and 6 children from Hackness Primary School, between Pickering and Scarborough, performed Let the Games Begin before a packed audience of friends, families and the local community.
The play, staged at Hackness Village Hall, saw a family roll a pair of magical dice to journey through various board games, culminating in a final showdown against the malevolent Lady Fortune, played impressively by Year 6 pupil Eden.
The production proved to be a whole school affair with children practising their songs and learning their lines for weeks, composing dance routines and even giving up break time to make props.
A weekly art club helped create all the more complicated props and set pieces including dice, Monopoly cards and chess piece head dresses.
Executive headteacher Rowena Thorp said: “The audience was delighted by the whole production, commenting that it was ‘just fantastic’ and that the children ‘were all amazing’.
“The great thing about our small school is that it gives every child an opportunity to take the stage and get meaningfully involved. We are lucky at Hackness to have dedicated staff that work to bring out the best in every child. It's especially rewarding to see children who might typically be more shy or self-conscious find the confidence to get up on stage and be involved.
“The KS2 production is another example of the school's renewed commitment to bringing the community together to celebrate the achievements of its young people.”
